The public are being invited to have their say on the regeneration of one of the largest brownfield sites in the region.
West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and Sandwell Council are bringing forward a long-standing allocated housing site in Wednesbury, currently known as Friar Park Urban Village.
We want to hear the views of the local community with the launch of a first phase of public consultation starting Monday 10th May 2021.
The proposed development presents exciting opportunities for the community with a mix of new high-quality homes and open spaces with pedestrian, cycle and transport links to surrounding areas.
The site covers over 27 hectares (approximately 40 football pitches) making it one of the largest brownfield sites in the region, reducing pressure on the greenbelt.
The development is focused on the importance of providing public open spaces such as children’s play areas, communal spaces and areas for bio-diversity.
The Phase 1 Consultation presents initial thoughts and options based on research and surveys undertaken to date alongside early engagement with key stakeholders. The six-week public consultation ends at midnight on the 20th June 2021. During this time the local community is invited to attend drop-in Public Information Days to view the proposals and speak to experts about the project.
The COVID-safe events will be held at the Friar Park Millennium Centre, Friar Park Road, Wednesbury WS10 0JS on:
- Thursday 20th May: 12pm – 8pm
- Friday 21st May: 10am – 8pm
- Saturday 22nd May: 10am – 5pm
Friar Park has the potential to create a distinctive and desirable place in which to live and support a thriving community. The regeneration can act as a catalyst for further positive change, bringing significant environmental, sustainable and other benefits for people of all ages to live in and enjoy.
